Get Your Home Decor Holiday Ready

By Amy Wright | Sep 6, 2019

Family parties, big delicious meals, gifts and holiday decorating. My oh my, where do we even start? Once again, the holidays have snuck up on us so quickly. Nothing says home for the holidays like festive home decor and wall art that’s welcoming and warm to celebrate this wonderful season. We’re here to help get you prepared, so consider this your ultimate guide to getting your home decor holiday-ready and wow your guests this year.

Clean & sweep

Before getting to the fun of decorating, the slightly less exhilarating tasks of tidying and prepping should be first on your to-do list. However, you don’t need to worry about getting every nook and cranny. With a bit of dusting and decluttering, your home will feel fresh and ready for welcoming guests for the holidays. On that note, if you have family or friends staying over, this is also the perfect time to prepare the guest room with fresh sheets, beautiful family frames, and some festive decor. If these festivities have you feelin’ extra generous, you could even add a sweet final touch by leaving a candy-cane on their pillow.

Add warmth to your decor

While the winter cold can be snow much fun, your home should feel warm and cozy during the holidays. These cool days call for warm colors and comfy accessories. Replace your lightweight cottons with knitted blankets, add patterns like plaid or Christmas themed pillows. Darker, holiday colors such as reds, greens and gold are the perfect way to add warmth to your decor.

Festive wall art

Another easy way to make your home decor festive and welcoming is simply to swap out your wall art with a canvas that displays the colors and themes of the winter season. You can also bring some extra love and joy to your home by displaying a framed print of a gorgeous christmas family photo, because the holidays are truly about family, right?

Set the table

The table is where family and friends gather around to celebrate, share stories and laughs. So pull out all the stops this year with your table decor. Bring out the fancy dishes, the table cloth and hand cloths, all the cutlery (what’s the small fork for again?), wine glasses, candles, flowers and a wonderful centrepiece.

Welcoming entrance

Your living room and dining room are all spruced up for the holidays, but you can’t forget to decorate the entrance of your home. This is your chance to give your guests a sneak peak of what’s inside and make them feel the joy of getting together with family. Decorate your door with a wreath, hang some stockings, add colorful lights, or place Hanukkah candles on your entrance console. No matter what you celebrate, decorating will spread holiday cheer throughout your home. You can also hang some of your favorite holiday prints in the entrance as well to make your family members and guest smile (matching family christmas sweater shoot anyone?).

Merry scents

Switching up your smells from summer breeze to cinnamon or peppermint is necessary for the cooler season. You also want your home to smell good for your guests and have those nostalgic holiday scents. A simple and delightful way to do this is simply by lighting scented candles around your home. By choosing reds, whites, greens or darker hues of candle colors, they will also make a great addition to your holiday decor.

Treats and extra holiday elements

Your guests will love you if you bake some delicious holiday treats and leave them out for them to nibble on while dinner is being prepared. You can also try some fun elements such as a fully loaded bar cart that guests can help themselves to or a hot cocoa bar for the kids.
